New Ceramic Arts Project to Support Wellbeing Launches in Monmouth This Summer

Art for Wellbeing, now Together, We Make is returning to Monmouth this summer, offering accessible and empowering ceramic art sessions for people who have been struggling with their mental health or wellbeing.

Running from June to September 2025 at The Bridges Centre, this 12-week project will deliver free-flowing, supported ceramics sessions led by professional ceramic artist Nathan Sheen, and supported by arts organisation IOC.

Each 2-hour session will focus on connection, creative expression, and gentle encouragement — using art as a tool to build confidence, reduce isolation, and nurture wellbeing. The sessions are open to all and particularly aimed at individuals who are looking for a reason to leave the house, find like-minded people, and rediscover their creativity in a safe, supportive space.

Participants will work with professional-level materials, receive expert tuition, and create ceramic pieces they can be proud of. The project will culminate in a small exhibition, where some artworks will be made available for sale to help fund future sessions.

Bookings are now open – though we have limited spaces – with participants able to book for £3-5 per session or £25 for the full 12-week block.

Why It Matters

This initiative doesn’t just offer art classes — it offers belonging, skill-building, and gentle structure to support people’s recovery and resilience. Past participants have described the project as “life-affirming,” “confidence-boosting,” and “a place where I felt accepted, without judgement.”

As one participant shared:

The company and the new skills have really helped my confidence and self-esteem. I learned that I can be part of a group again and be accepted for who I am.

The sessions are part of a broader vision to support a more resilient, equal, and healthier Wales — with long-term aims to build a network of wellbeing-artists and creative peer-leaders within the community. The project will also work with local referral partners such as Monmouthshire Wellbeing Links Advisers, GAVO, Monmouthshire Mind, OTs, and social prescribers, ensuring that those who will benefit most are able to take part. IOC will provide project management, monitoring, and evaluation throughout.

With full level-access, nearby parking and public transport links, the sessions are designed to be inclusive and barrier-free, contributing to a more cohesive and accessible arts community in Monmouth.
