Inside Out Cymru are excited to announce an upcoming project in partnership with Alzheimers Society Cymru, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and GAVO, funded by the Arts Council of Wales Lottery Arts and Health Grant.

‘Reaching Out | Ymestyn Allan’ will deliver arts and crafts activities like music, singing, printmaking and mixed media crafts for people living in healthcare settings or those in the community with specific access needs that are often not met. Individuals who may not normally be able to access arts provision on the ward or in the community will be supported in their attendance. Firstly, by creating people-led activities that meet the needs and interests of the participant. Secondly, by sharing the expertise of Alzheimers Society and NHS staff with other carers and Inside Out Cymru’s professional artists.

The 3-month project will deliver:

  • ‘in-house’ arts sessions for long-term patients on hospital wards and in outpatient departments
  • Monthly drop-in community sessions specially designed for people with a specific diagnoses
  • Weekly community sessions for both carers and those with dementia-diagnoses
  • Training and skill-share for 4 professional artists, healthcare professionals and the development of a Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Champion

Our first community activity at the Riverfront, Newport will begin in January – watch this space!  Residental activities at Ysbyty’r Tri’r Chwm, Pwyll-Y-Pant Early Onset Dementia Group and Tal-y-Garn Ward in Caerphilly continue.
