Since January 2025, the Caldicot community have been coming together to learn about the heritage of the area through crafts. We celebrated this March as Pieces of Caldicot: Mosaic and Mural Making wrapped up with a vibrant unveiling event at TogetherWORKS Caldicot. Delivered by Inside Out Cymru and funded by TogetherWORKS, the project ran from January to March 2025 and brought creativity, connection, and colour to the heart of the town.

Across six weeks, residents participated in a series of welcoming workshops, where they explored mosaic and mural-making techniques inspired by Caldicot’s rich heritage. The result: a beautiful, community-designed installation that now brightens a corner of the TogetherWORKS centre — and the spirits of everyone who visits.

Participants reported feeling more connected to one another and their town’s history, with 100% of feedback respondents saying the project deepened their sense of community. For many, it was also a chance to learn new artistic skills and find a renewed confidence in their creativity.

“This has been such a special experience,” said one participant. “I loved having something to look forward to in the evenings and it’s amazing to see what we created together.”

Led by artists Alice Smith and Kate Verity, the sessions offered therapeutic benefits beyond the art itself, fostering friendships and providing a meaningful creative outlet for people navigating challenges with their wellbeing.
